Group Therapy & Workshops

Transform Your Life With Group Therapy

Surrounded by understanding peers, group members can share experiences and get support while learning from others in a similar phase of life who face related challenges.

According to the American Psychological Association (APA), group therapy offers many benefits, including creating a robust support network that can extend beyond the regular meeting times. Talking and listening to peers can help group members put their problems into perspective and reduce shame, stigma, and isolation. Research shows that group therapy can be as effective and is more efficient than individual traditional therapy.

Women's Interpersonal Process Group

WIPG is a safe place for adult women to learn more about themselves and the way they interact in relationships. It offers an opportunity to experiment with communication styles, share authentically, and expand capacity for deeper and more meaningful interpersonal connections. Participants will be invited to practice giving and receiving interpersonal feedback and to learn new ways of engaging in relationships. Group meets virtually every other Monday and is open to women in Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, and California.

The group is ongoing, with an opportunity to join or leave each series (10 sessions). Participants are asked to be in ongoing therapy or have a known therapist “at the ready” for support with material that may surface in group. Before joining, participants must complete an intake.

Emerging Adult DBT Skills Group

This DBT Skills Group (meeting via Zoom) is for emerging adults ages 18-25 living in Ohio, Indiana, Virginia and California who experience ongoing emotional difficulties and/or would like better skills for managing emotions and struggles. Primary goals of the group are to decrease self-destructive or avoidance behaviors, increase effective coping skills, and create a sense of behavioral and emotional stability. Topics include emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, and mindfulness. We also address building mastery, lessening self-criticism, managing depression, setting short and long term goals, and self-care. Before joining, participants must complete an intake.

Teen DBT & IFS Skills Group

This group is for high school age adolescents who struggle with intense emotions and who are seeking to build greater flexibility and deeper resilience in managing moods, emotions, and thought patterns. We will learn skills from DBT and IFS to improve self regulation, relationships with others, time management, goal setting and increase understanding of self. Parents of the teens are invited to attend the Parent Workshop in order to gain skills to better understand and support their teens’ learning process. The teen group meets in person on Monday evenings in our Beachwood office.

Parent Emotional Skills Workshop

For parents who want to support their teen or young adult’s well-being, feel less overwhelmed or reactive, and strengthen your own skills. This seven-week experiential workshop helps parents understand and take care of emotions, create internal calm, and gain greater clarity and compassion.  We use components of Internal Family Systems, Polyvagal Theory (focus on re-training nervous system responses), and DBT to improve parenting and other key relationships.

There are two options for this workshop – one that is self-paced and online-only, and one that includes 7 group sessions for further discussion and support with other parents.

You do not need to currently have a teen or young adult in our groups to join this parent workshop.
